Most of the web sites that offer online coupons (aka “promotional codes”) use affiliate links to monetize their sites. If you are using the links from a coupon site, here are a few things to remember:
1. Some coupon offers do not list the code because they are “click through” coupons. This means that the coupon is applied when the user clicks on the link. An important thing to remember is that you must shop through the page that opens when you click on the link in order to receive the discount. Overstock.com is a great example of this. When you click on an Overstock.com coupon link, you see the offer details on the page that opens (and you must begin your shopping from that page).
2. Some users experience problems with links on coupon sites. Some Internet firewall programs (Norton Internet Security, ZoneAlarm and Kazaa, to name a few) may block affiliate links, and therefore prevent the user from redeeming an offer and / or receiving the discount. This isn’t a problem when you are given a coupon code to use during checkout, but it is a problem if you are trying to redeem a “click through” coupon.
3. MAC users have problems redeeming coupons on some merchant web sites. I’ve seen error messages like “this coupon is expired” on a MAC for the same coupon code that works like a charm on a PC.
4. Certain browsers cause problems for coupon users. Merchant web sites are not all created equal, and some of them do not function properly for certain browsers. When in doubt, contact the coupon site and/or try placing your order on a PC using Explorer. In some cases, you can just call in the order and use the coupon code.

When using any online coupon, you should ALWAYS make sure that the coupon is applied before you submit your order.
Almost all sites will have their discount shown in the cart. If you don’t see the discount, don’t submit the order. Most companies will NOT apply your coupon after you submit the order, you’ll end up wasting more time cancelling the order and getting your $$ back.
